GIGGLESWICK RAILWAY CIRCLE – Programme 2020

GIGGLESWICK RAILWAY CIRCLE – Programme 2020

Wednesday 22 January - Yorkshire Dales Quarries, Railways & Tramways Part 2, Stewart Liles

To start this year’s programme of meetings it is a welcome return to Stewart Liles. After last year’s enthralling presentation, Stewart will be taking us on a tour round more of the quarries in the Dales.

Wednesday 26 February - Reverend Bearpark Collection, Vic Drake

The Reverend Bearpark probably needs no introduction to the people in Settle. Not only is he known for his ministerial work but he is also an active member of the Friends of the Settle to Carlisle Line. What I have just learned is that he was something of a railway photographer and Vic Drake has carefully made digital copies of a number of his negatives. Tonight, Vic will be treating us to a selection of those photographs.

Wednesday 25 March - Travels with a Mamiya, John Leck

Tonight we welcome John Leck. John is one of the relatively few photographers still using film. His presentation will be preserved steam on the main line and private railways. Something you may not know about John is that he has painted a number of restored steam locomotives. Maybe he will give us a little insight into this work during the evening.

Wednesday 22 April – ‘Pick a Number’, A Mixed Set of Mini-Presentations, Gavin Morrison

Tonight it is a welcome return for Gavin Morrison. Tonight Gavin is giving a show with a difference. It will consist of a number of small presentations of about 15 images, so you, the audience, chose a number without knowing the subject of that batch of images. They could be Narrow Gauge, Preserved Steam, BR Steam, Diesels or even favourite lines abroad. If you pick a number and don’t like the subject, then you only have yourself to blame. I’m sure it will be a fun night.

Wednesday 23 September – ‘Sheffield to Carlisle’, Roger Hepworth

I’m pleased that Roger agreed to travel all the way from Ossett to provide us with a photographic journey from Sheffield to Carlisle. His shows are very entertaining and, don’t be fooled by the title, Roger does sometimes include a few diversions.

Wednesday 28 October – ‘Video Presentation’, Ted Parker

This evenings presentation will be the first video presentation to the ‘Circle’. Respected video photographer Ted Parker is travelling down from the North East and will be treating us to main line steam in the North and more. It promises to be more an audio visual presentation with plenty of atmosphere than a straight ‘run past’ video.

Wednesday 25 November – ‘BR Steam’s Last Redoubt’, David Fowler

I’ve not had the pleasure of seeing a presentation by David, but seeing some images on his tablet computer I didn’t need any persuading to ask him to give us a show. The title of the show is self-explanatory and the main area of David’s photography was in the North-West. Expect to see a mix of Lineside scenes, shed scenes and even some Colin Gifford-esque images.

Wednesday 16 December – ‘British Railways – Then and Now’, Steve Fort

A welcome return to Steve who tonight will be presenting a ‘Then and Now’ view of British Railways. It’s always fascinating to see how the landscape has changed over the years. I’m sure in this presentation there will be a mix of steam, diesel and electric traction. Something for all. As it is the last meeting before Christmas, expect mince pies too.
